We, your two poor scribes Wan Ji and Takahatsu Ryu, present this scroll to her Illustrious Highness, Petal of True Innocence, Blade of Heaven, Kami of Man, etc., Most Perfected Haruka, Empress of the Shining New Century, daughter of Tomoe Shizuka and the Kami Fukurokujin.

This scroll has been culled from the collected histories of every clan, fallen, diminished or preserved, and we have striven to give the Empress what we believe to be most accurate. We are indeed soliciting the opinions of other historians to leave their marks and insights on this scroll so Her Highness may weigh all matters herself and decide what the truth shall be.

Third Era, Foreigners Invade

“Roiling Seas & Eclipe.
The wize contemplate the changing of seasons.
Traditional methods bare few fruits.
The boastful, returning from exotic ports, find rocky harbor.”

Fourth Era, The Second Clan War

“Heaven & Deep Chasm.
The wise anticipate opposition.
Brothers meet with swords; strangers converse over tea.
Thunder regenerates deep within Earth’s womb.
No success is possible if leadership wavers.”

Fifth Era, The Empire Falls

“Autumn and High Sun.
The wise acknowledge their shadow.
The superior person calls for joining together to cultivate strength.
A desert plowed yields no wheat.”
